Our honorary Bruges Brothers will share what makes Belgian beer unique, complex, and delicious during an evening of beer samples and stories at the Lucky's Liquor Store mezzanine.
Brother #1: Townsite Brewing (Powell River) brewing engineer Cédric Dauchot was born in Belgium and graduated from L’institut Meurice in Brussels in 2004 with an engineering degree in the science of brewing. In Canada, the affable Cedric has introduced many craft beer fans to Belgian beer styles through Townsite’s highly-regarded lineup of oud bruins, saisons, dubbels, triples, and quadrupels.
Brother #2: Joe Wiebe - Thirsty Writer is a gregarious public speaker, beer judge, Victoria Beer Society director, and one of BC’s most well-known beer writers. While many beer fans have followed his travels throughout BC for his book, Craft Beer Revolution, Joe will discuss Belgian beer history and the development of Belgian beer styles.
Beer samples (subject to change):
BC: Townsite Lil' Red, Dageraad Burnabarian, White Sails Barrel Aged Belgian Black
Belgium: Oude Gueuze Tilquin à l'Ancienne, Chimay Blue Grande Reserve, Gulden Draak 9000
We’re incredibly excited for this rare opportunity to bring Cedric and Joe to Nanaimo to honour the Belgian brewing tradition. After this session, my Liège, it won’t take much until Brussels sprouts up in your mind the next time you Ghent decide what beer to try!
